Glossary

Words you may meet around PollyPay. None of them need anything from you.

API key

A code that lets your own software record and check on your behalf. Keep it on a server.

Balance

Prepaid credit for records past the free allowance, a penny each. Topped up in USDC, a digital dollar. Not a bank account.

Bundle

Several files recorded as one ledger line. Each file still checks on its own.

Certificate

The page a record gets. Shows the fingerprint, when it was recorded, who has held it, who countersigned it, and a live check against the ledger. Anyone can open it.

Chain of custody

Who has held a record, in order: recorded by, then each handover, with any notes and photos from both sides.

Countersign

Another account putting its name to your record from a link, so both of you are on the record as agreeing to it.

Fingerprint

A short code worked out from the exact contents of a file. Change one letter and the code changes completely. It cannot be turned back into the file.

Handover

Passing a record to another account. They accept from a link, the move goes on the ledger, and the certificate shows the chain of custody.

Kept copy

The file itself, stored with PollyPay at your request, checked against the record on arrival. Private unless you say otherwise.

Label

A printed square code for a record. Scanning it opens the certificate with its custody chain.

Memo

The short note PollyPay writes into the ledger line, such as pollypay:sha256: followed by the fingerprint. It is what makes a record checkable without us.

Page and handle

Your public page at pollypay.uk/@yourname, with your posts, public records and statements. The handle is the name in that address.

Passkey

A way to sign in with your fingerprint, face or device PIN instead of an email link. Nothing to remember.

Post

Short words on your page, optionally put on the record too.

Proof pack

One file with everything needed to check a record without PollyPay: the fingerprint, the ledger transaction, its memo and plain instructions.

Public ledger

A record book kept by thousands of computers at once. Anyone can read it, nobody owns it, and a line cannot be changed once written. PollyPay uses Solana.

Receipt code

The long code that names a ledger line. Paste it into Check to find a record; it is also the end of the certificate address.

Record

What you make when you drop a file or write a note: its fingerprint and the time, written to the public ledger. The file itself never leaves your device.

Sealed note

A note you record now and reveal on a date. The text stays private with PollyPay until then, then opens to everyone.

Statement

Words about a website, an email address, a product or a document, with your account behind them and a line on the ledger.

Team

Accounts that share records, statements, the balance, keys and webhooks, each still signing in on their own.

Version

A record marked as replacing an earlier one of yours. The certificate shows the whole history.
